Facial Rejuvenation Options

Clients often ask about the options available to freshen their skin, give their appearance a lift and generally stave off the inevitable aging process.
There are several different alternatives available and since they all have their strengths they are often used in conjunction with one another to maximize the result.
The different approaches include:-

  • Dermal Fillers
  • Collagen Stimulants like Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy (and Sculptra)
  • Anti wrinkle (muscle relaxing) injections

Dermal fillers these days are made from a natural substance called hyaluronic acid. Various formulations are used to hydrate, reshape and add volume as well as helping to smooth out deeper lines and folds. This type of filler provides an immediate result and lasts 3-12 months depending on the choice of product and the client's lifestyle. By the way, good tip to maximize the longevity of these treatments is to keep well hydrated.

Some areas are not suitable for treatment with dermal fillers. For example, the fine skin immediately under the eye is an area that responds very well to Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP treatment. This treatment is also sometimes referred to under the trade name Regen. The technique works by reintroducing your own plasma very superficially into the skin around the target area. A small amount of the patients own blood is drawn and then spun down using a sterile technique and this separates the red cells from the plasma. The plasma is then reintroduced to the skin. The treatment revitalizes the skin by gradually increasing collagen. This increases the skin thickness by up to a third and restores a more youthful texture and suppleness.

Best results require 2-3 visits about 4 weeks apart. There is a day or two of downtime with this procedure. The results gradually kick in over a period of time and can take up to 2 months to appear in some patients, with continuing improvement as time passes. A yearly top up is recommended as a maintenance program. Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy has been around for quite a while and is both safe and effective. Platelet Rich Plasma is also used in mainstream medicine for wound care, burns treatment, tissue regeneration and hair regrowth.
For a more complete rejuvenation of the eye area, a combination of a muscle relaxant for the crow's feet area, and the platelet rich plasma treatment for the fine crepey skin under the eye will have the optimum result for fresh more vibrant eyes .
