Capillaries and pigments are removed from the skin by a pulse of laser light which is directed to spots and will instantly heat them. The spots are then broken down and will disappear permanently without a trace. These specific wavelengths of light heat the targeted pigments while sparing the surrounding healthy or normal tissue.

Cooling devices on the tip of the device cool the skin on contact, protecting the skin while directing the laser energy to the hair follicle. Patients will also be offered an anaesthetic (numbing) cream to increase comfort. Recovery is rapid and patients may return to normal activity straight after treatment.

The amount of treatments required depends on several factors including skin tone. For pigmented lesions, typically three treatments are performed at monthly intervals for optimal results, though we may see the pigmented lesions clear sooner. IPL can treat a lot of capillaries very quickly, generally one to four sessions will be needed to clear the entire area.
